Beware the ides of June

Or so says Angela Rippon. And do you know? He wasn't kidding.

I'm afraid I'm guilty of hiding a tad too much this month.Following my little sprint out in Bexhill last month I'm afraid the old Olympic regime has dipped completely. I got a couple of days work at the chamois leather factory and that kept me busy. I then did a bit of work in Liverpool then Nottingham and finally Bridlington. As a result I had to put the training on the back bender for a couple of weeks.

The problem is that my body is that of an Olympian and as such any variance in my daily grind of Olympic gold medal training tends to throw my body. Mind you, you'd have a job throwing my body six inches at the moment - I have put a little bit too much of an emphasis on carbo loading. The result was a bit of a disaster when I went out for my first run in a fortnight on Sunday. We'd decided to do a low key race so that I wouldn't be bothered by well wishers, fans and women so we'd gone to New Eltham for the Eltham Park 5.

New Eltham? Well if that was New Eltham I'd hate to see Old Eltham. Anyway I set off on what seemed to be a pleasant rural park course - and then my legs just stopped. I'd got nothing inn them!! So, I registered my first DFF for some years. I tried to hide my disappointment and only decked a couple of cheeky marshals who asked me if I needed help. I'm an Olympic athlete for Gods sake - I don't need help.

Anyway not for the first time I really need to elbow down and get my fitness sorted for the summer. I'm only 16 weeks away from a return trip to Indialand and I've also got big races in France and Holland in the autumn as well. So the Half Share hit upon a great motivating idea to get me back on the straight and normal - she's only gone and entered us both in the North Downs Run this Sunday.

That's 30 Kilograms up and down the hills of North Kent.

Thanks a bunch pal.

Keep on tapering.
